A Capital idea for Welsh Lamb

24 Feb 2010

Londoners will be treated to a taste of Welsh Lamb this week.

The True Taste Welsh Food Market takes over Soho's Golden Square on Friday the 26th February and Hybu Cig Cymru - Meat Promotion Wales (HCC) will be there.

HCC will be giving out free samples of Welsh Lamb to visitors and telling them where and when they can buy Welsh Lamb in the capital to take home and cook for themselves.

Welsh Lamb is becoming increasingly popular in London with a number of leading restaurants featuring Welsh Lamb on their menus. These include Soho's Arbetus restaurant, which is owned by Michelin star chef Anthony Demetre who also includes Welsh Lamb recipes in his latest book.

Research also shows that recognition of Welsh Lamb is on the increase in the region with 75 per cent of people in South Eastern England saying that Welsh Lamb was a brand they could trust.

Elwen Roberts, HCC's Consumer Executive, said: "There are a lot of food connoisseurs in London and we want to show them that Welsh Lamb is the perfect meat for them.

"Welsh Lamb is a premium product and that fact is clearly demonstrated by its use at top restaurants in the city."

Welsh Lamb will also take centre stage in the capital next week when the Wales in London Society hosts its annual St David's Day dinner in the Guildhall, which will include Welsh Lamb supplied by HCC on the menu.

The True Taste Welsh Food Market will be held in Golden Square, London between 11am and 7pm on Friday the 26th February 2010
