BVD
A new initiative to raise awareness and control the spread of a cattle virus that has a major impact on the health and profitability of herds has been launched by red meat promotion agency Hybu Cig Cymru.
Farmers will be given financial assistance to take part in a testing and control project with the ultimate goal to eradicate Bovine Viral Diarrhoea (BVD) in their herd.
HCC is recruiting 100 farms, on a first come first served basis, to take part in the £40,000 project which is funded through the Rural Development Plan for Wales.
Farmers seeking further information about the BVD project should contact the WRVC at Gelli Aur on 01554 748597.
HCC has also produced a farmer booklet, which contains a focus on BVD. For further information on this or the Farming Connect Red Meat Development Programme contact HCC on 01970 625050 or visit www.hccmpw.org.uk
Funding for the BVD project has come from the Rural Development Plan for Wales 2007-2013, financed by the Welsh Assembly Government and European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.
