Abattoir Training
Free Training and Consultancy for Welsh Meat Plants
Hybu Cig Cymru (HCC) has support available for small to medium sized (SMEs) abattoirs and processors in Wales to update procedures, in plant systems and provide training where needed.
As part of this project which is fully funded under the Rural Development Plan for Wales (RDP) 2007 - 2013, Meat Plants will receive up to 14 days of one-to-one training and consultancy, in the implementation of Quality Management Procedures (QMPs).
Each meat plant will be assigned a project coach who will provide ‘one-to-one' guidance and instruction, enabling the implementation of a ‘Quality Manual' in the workplace.
The ‘Quality Manual' will be built up stage-by-stage and will be bespoke to each business.
This will be a ‘working document', therefore meat plants will need to demonstrate that they are complying with the policies and procedures that they have selected as part of their Quality Management Procedures.
HCC encourages SMEs to take advantage of this training and consultancy as there are many benefits for Welsh Meat Plants in being involved with this project, including the opportunities to:
• maximize efficiency;
• demonstrate compliance with Welsh PGI;
• show the business' commitment to a quality product;
• provide opportunities for new and existing business development;
• develop the foundation on which accreditation to a Quality Standard may be achieved.
As well as individual instruction this project also gives Welsh abattoirs and processors the opportunity to receive training in Food Hygiene, Health & Safety, HACCP and Animal Welfare.
Welsh abattoirs and processors will be contacted in January 2010, in the meantime meat plants that want to be involved with this initiative can register their interest by contacting Dewi Hughes, HCC Project Executive on 01970 625 050 or info@hccmpw.org.uk.
