Farm Facts:
- Approx 600 acres of owned land + 140 acres rented, across 3 holdings
- Mixed farm, 100 acres permanent grazing, 100 acres of arable crops grown for own use.
- 80 suckler herd, 180 stores/finishers
- 1,450 sheep flock, approx 2,000 lambs; scotch mule and Suffolk x mules.
- 400 acres in Tir Cynnal agri-environment scheme.
- Farm involved in the Glastir pilot project.
Bodrida became a demonstration farm in June 2010.
Objectives:
- Further understand and analyse production costs across the holdings
- Improve the grassland management on recently acquired land
- Further improve the beef enterprise on the farm
Aims:
- Increase kilos per ewe sold
- Maximise early lamb finishing weights
- Assess the potential impact of Glastir on the farm
- Improve grassland, consider increasing clover usage
- Improve suckler cow production, with a focus on weaning weight
