Demonstration Farms

HCC, through the Farming Connect Red Meat Development Programme, supports 10 demonstration farms across Wales.
The farms, that are geographically spread throughout Wales, represent a range of farm sector types and play an important role in demonstrating and promoting the principles of business development, environmental safeguarding and market focus. Many demonstration farms, past and present, have implemented management changes and new technologies which have yielded considerable success in terms of improved gross margins and sustainability.
At the start of its period as a demonstration farm, each enterprise undertakes a full Farm Business Review and Farm Health Plan. These plans form the basis for management changes to reduce costs and increase efficiency and productivity during the farm's three-year tenure.
Working with HCC staff, specific projects are undertaken to evaluate how new technologies and approaches operate in that particular farming situation.
Each demonstration farm will hold two open days every year, facilitate one small scale project and coordinate a discussion group around the Demonstration Farm.
